LSU Student Union Free Speech Alley– March 15, 2011, 12:30-2:30pm
The Laptop Orchestra of Louisiana will be taking its talents outdoors on March 15, 2011, to ‘Free Speech Alley’ directly outside the LSU Student Union, from 12:30-2:30pm. We will be performing new works and displaying newly created augmented instruments.
We are excited for a couple reasons:
1. It’ll be our first performance outdoors! The laptop orchestra can perform in all kinds of settings. And being in an outdoor, highly foot-trafficked setting, we hope to intrigue and interest passers-by with our unique performance.
2. We’ll be looking for some audience participation. Along with hands-on trying out our instruments, we will ask for a bit of audience participation.
We hope to entertain and expose fellow students to/with our music and research, to show them some new musical possibilities and to tell them of the opportunities within the AVATAR and EM/DM programs.
The program for the concert will include music by Jeff Albert, Nick Hwang, Sarah O’Halloran (UVA), Ge Wang (Stanford), and Jesse Allison. We will also have musical interludes provided by works by the Instrument making class.
