The Laptop Orchestra of Louisiana (LOLs) is a research and performance ensemble dedicated to the exploration of real-time computational technologies and digital media for the purpose of group music making. Inspired by the Princeton (PLOrk) and Stanford (SLork) ensembles, we look to bring the same excitement and virtuosity to the Gulf South, but with our own individual flair.
RESEARCH:
LOL research is focused on developing new tools for managing orchestral software, time synchronization, tangible interactions and composing new works for laptop ensembles. It is also exploring the adaptation of distributed computing technologies for the management and control of a scalable ensemble, from 5 to as many as we can envision. We are writing original code using ChucK, Max 5, and C++.
The LOLs are a project of the CCT Lab for Creative Arts & Technologies, the AVATAR Initiative in Digital Media and the LSU School of Music, at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
The LOLs also are host to the Laptop Orchestra Network, a Ning social network for laptop orchestras to share ideas, concert information and scores.

Lovely that you’re inspired by Butch Morris! Keep up the work: rehearse, define, clarify, reveal…!
